PRIDE

Its pride month and as a proud gay 20 year old, gleaming at this large screen before me wants to share what pride REALLY means to me.

Pride to me means 'being proud'.  Being proud of myself for standing up to the bully who TRIIIEEDD IT! by calling me a fag.

Being proud of myself for acknowledging who I REALLY am and not what society says I should be.

Being proud of myself for actually being happy and comfortable in my own body and with my feelings.

For being able to fully express myself how I want to, and when I want to, without thinking about others but about myself and my own happiness (Which we tend to forget at times because we're so consumed by what others think of us.)

Being proud of myself for standing in front of my family and others, standing by my truth terrified of the outcome, of the judgement and the ridicule and merely being shunned for who I am. (Even though it is difficult for others out there.)

For proudly being able to say 'I AM GAY AND I LOVE IT!!!.'

That is what pride represents and means to me, that we should love ourselves because we're unique and authentic.  We cannot be labeled nor can we be put in a certain type of box by others (Although they try so hard). We are meant to be free and happy and not boring at all, because WE ARE SPECIAL.

So to my fellow Qweeens out there know this:  It gets better trust me, the world might not understand you, and you to might not understand yourself but that's okay.  It's okay not to fit in, because you don't and that's what makes you unique and beautiful.

To those out there who get threatened with death and destruction for merely living their beautiful truths, for simply existing as magnificently as they want. Never stop living that truth and keep shining.

To those that feel caged and in the shadows fearing being ridiculed, violated, abused and shunned, you have nothing to fear and no one at that because, who you are is your entire existence.  Its something you cant hide or run away from forever (Try as you might), but rather a beautiful thing one must embrace and love.

Know this: when you accept who you are, all of who you are only then can you be free and freedom my dear friends is power.

We are more than our sexuality but nothing less because of it.  Know that you are loved and that you matter and you are seen.

So in the words of the great Rupaul I say to you:  If you can't love yourself how the hell you gonna love somebody else.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH.
