#ComingOutDay
So #ComingOutDay was upon us, I honestly don't know where the hell I was that I wasn't apart of something so beautifull.
So for the those of you who don't know what #ComingOutDay is, here is a brief explanation.
It's an annual LGBT awareness day that falls on October 11 or 12 (Depending on where you are in the world.). The emphasis on the most basic form of activism being coming out to your family, friends and colleagues, and living life as an openly gay or lesbian (Your true authentic self basically).
This is an important day that we share our stories with the world and get to have an insight on what it is like for the next person who comes out to the world and shares their story and experience. We live in a world of constant hate, critism and judgement and have to deal with people who are still mentally enslaved and have their own ideologies of what this world should be like.
What makes this day so special for me is that, the world gets to see the strong, couragious, bold beings who actually muster up the will power to stand in the light and in their truth (Trust me, it aint for the weak). Coming out is not a walk in the park and it is no ones place to out others.
We all have our individual coming out stories which are unique from one another, for instance, when I came out to the world before I truly came out to my family part of the world did not welcome me with roses and a warm embrace with sparklers to match. Coming out to my siblings was a breeze as they basically knew before I did (Ray Charles can glitter oozing through my veins) but it wasn't easy coming out to my mother because of her beliefs and way of thinking (But we can't change that).
Coming out as mentioned is very different for all of us because it has it's good and bad, not everyone is accepting. People get disowned or shunned by their own families and friends which then throws them into a deeper hole than what they already are in, which has led to people being depressed and even committing suicide. Then we get the good where you come out and the world loves and adores you for all of who you are and praises you (Which is ofcourse a utopia we all long for one day, not just for us but for the 18 year old still stuck in that awful renched dark closet, afraid to step out into the light because of the fear of the flames of judgement.)
So on this day we commend our brave brothers and sisters (And Qweeenns!) who have stepped out into the light and out of that rachet closet (Trust me, it aint pretty in there) and now are living their best lives authenticaly.
So I salute you in the words of our Qween, "If you aint gonna love yourself, how the hell you gon love somebody else!!."
