Its Legendary
LET THE BALL BEGIN!
As I have been locked up in my fortress of solitude due to Ms. Rona (Thank you for that) I have been subjected to binge watch all the shows I said would watch but never had the chance or time to.
My obsession for this week is the new HBO Max show Legendary that has had me vogueing and posing for the gods. Legendary is a vogueing competition that showcases the fabulous ballroom culture and how this culture has evolved over the years. Ballroom (For my fellow man) is an underground LGBT subculture that originated in New York (If you’ve watched Pose then your all caught up). During these balls’ members of the community mostly African American and Latino gay, lesbian and trans, individuals then fiercely walk (Also known as compete) for trophies, prizes, and the shear glory at events.
Like any Ball the show showcases various categories in which the houses compete in where they are expected to dance, vogue, model, and mix various performances. Every episode these houses compete for Supreme house title as well $100 000 cash prize. Judged by Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado and Megan Thee Stallion with guest judges every episode.
This show is more than a competition, it is a beacon in the community that the LGBTQ+ community is heard and seen. Ballroom (Believe it or not) is the birthplace of a lot of wonderful things that the world today enjoys, i.e. Madonna’s vogue stems from ballroom and vogueing.
Stemming from homophobia and transphobia ballroom celebrates in that rebellion and these houses demand attention from their audience every episode with extravagant outfits, death drops, duck dips and hair flips.
THE GOAL IS TO BE LEGENDARY.
